Maureen Gabriel

Dear Legion Family & Friends,

It is my sad duty to inform the post family of the passing of another one of our members. Our sister Maureen Gabriel passed away on November 28th. She was the oldest active post member on our roster. She was 102 ½ years old when she received her orders to transfer to Post Everlasting. Maureen served in the United States Navy during WWII during which time she received the Navy Cross, along with other awards. She was one of a handful of women to receive the NC during World War 2, which speaks volumes. After her discharge she continued to serve our country by working in the Navy Shipyards in the Bay Area for another 30+ years. She never married she use to say her neighbors were her family.

When I spoke to Maureen, not to long ago she asked that we the American Legion, be the ones to walk her to her grave when the time came. So, we are going to keep that promise, and stand the rails and render honors to our sister.

Maureen Gabriel’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 7th, at 1:00 pm at St Mary’s Cemetery, which is located at the corner of 65th & Fruitridge Road in Sacramento. Our Honor Guard will be rendering Full Military Honors for her. You are welcome to join us to show our respect and love for our sister, if you choose to attend, I would ask you to wear your legion cover if you have one.

Also some of you have wanted to know where to send cards, Please send them to Maureen’s family at 8613 Brodie Ct, Elk Grove, CA. 95624

Seaman Maureen Gabriel, I wish you Fair Winds and Following Seas
